Perrygo (1906-1984), taxidermist, and Alexander Wetmore (1886-1978), ornithologist and, at the time, Assistant Secretary in charge of the United States National Museum, in the field collecting birds at Stumpy Point, North Carolina. This image was known by the Smithsonian staff as the "Mutt & Jeff" photo because of their height disparity.
