Letter from Herbert Friedmann to S. Dillon Ripley, June 16, 1944, Smithsonian Archives - History Div, Letter from Herbert Friedmann, curator of birds, U.S. National Museum, to S. Dillon Ripley replying to Ripley's letter of June 5, informing Ripley that proofs of his paper, when received, will be checked; that he has requested copies of the "Field Collectors Manual in Natural History" be sent to Ripley and Bert [Herbert G. Deignan]; that he wrote to Bert recently that one set of galley proofs of his "Birds of Northern Thailand'' are being sent through Dr. Nyland's office and that he (Friedmann) is nearly a quarter of a way through another set of proofs. He goes on about being happy to have a ghost visit and is glad to know that Ripley and Bert have been collecting birds and is looking forward to a fine lot of material from his island..
