January 9, 1917 - Goddard to Secretary Walcott after Receiving Grant

Robert Goddard Letter - Jan 9, 1917

January 9, 1917.

Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution,
Washington, D.C.

Dear Sir;

I have received your letter of the 5th instant, enclosing check for $1,000.00, as first payment under grant for experimentation and development of the rocket device.

I am delighted to receive this support, which has come much sooner than I had even hoped, and I take this opportunity of thanking you for the work you have done in the matter.

I intend, in the immediate future, to plan the work and to secure my assistants (which can be done much easier in the spring than now), so that there will be as little lost motion as possible when the work is well under way.

If you would care to keep the manuscript which I sent, you may do so, as I have a similar copy, as well as a carbon copy.

Yours very truly,
[signed] Robert H. Goddard
