Dr. Herbert Friedmann (1900-1987), an ornithologist specializing in African and American parasitic birds, was appointed Curator in 1929 in the Division of Birds, Department of Zoology, from 1929 to 1961, stands in Bird Hall in the United States National Museum, now the National Museum of Natural History, in front of an exhibit case of the different breeds of domestic fowls. In 1957, Friedmann was made Head Curator of the Department of Zoology in the United States National Museum.
