Watson M. Perrygo (1906-1984), taxidermist and field collector for the United States National Museum, examining the "graveyard" of experimental wood test stakes for termite control on Barro Colorado Island in the Canal Zone Biological Area, on March 11, 1946. This research station was renamed the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute in 1964. Perrygo accompanied Secretary Alexander Wetmore on his annual field trips to Panama to collect birds.
