Exhibition of Systematic Geology, Geology Hall, United States National Museum (now Arts and Industries Building) in the nineteenth century. Includes stalagmites, large rock and mineral specimens, and floor cases with specimens. Note globe lights hanging from the ceiling, and a skylight cut in the roof. Display cases, rather than railings, run the length of the edge of the gallery above.
