Summary

Three unidentified workers elevate the Joseph Henry statue on wooden supports while the Mall is regraded, November 8, 1934. A small construction vehicle sits nearby and in the foreground is a wheelbarrow. Henry is facing the Smithsonian Institution Building. Joseph Henry was the first Secretary of the Smithsonian (1846-1878). The photo contains a view of the Mall looking towards the United States Capitol (although the building is hidden by trees) and includes several unidentified buildings.
