Summary

Quarter size model of the Samuel P. Langley flying machine flying on August 8, 1903. Langley was the third Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution (1887-1906) and was a pioneer in the field of aerial navigation. The full size machine was an exact duplicate of this design. Unfortunately, it did not fly as successfully as the model, and the Wright brothers became the first to fly a manned machine.
