The International Exchange Service room in the East Range basement of the south side of the Smithsonian Institution Building where Frank Gass and Washington Irving Adams are working. Established in 1848, the International Exchange Service, administered by the Smithsonian Institution, disseminated scientific publications to scholarly institutions both in the United States and abroad.
