Summary

Shortly after he was hired as a Laboratory Apprentice in the Division of Mechanical Technology in the United States National Museum in 1922, Frank A. Taylor works on a large press from the collections . He is working in the United States National Museum, now known as the Arts & Industries Building. Suspended from the ceiling, the nose of a plane with Texaco name and star and one wing can be seen on the right .

  • Taylor came to work at the Smithsonian after he graduated from high school and advanced to Museum Aid in 1925, Curator in 1929, Director of the National Museum of History and Technology, now the National Museum of American History, in 1958, and Director-General of Museums in 1968 before his retirement in 1971.
