McFadden Room, National Gallery of Art (NGA), now the Smithsonian American Art Museum (SAAM), at the United States National Museum (USNM) building, now known as the Natural History Building (NHB), installation photograph, May 28, 1928. South and East walls. Large standing portrait of George Washington, flanked by two smaller portrait paintings, fill the center wall. Seven portraits are seen on the adjacent wall to the right, and one large painting in slightly visible on the wall to the left. Interior structure of USNM building is visible above the installation. John Howard McFadden donated the collection of British Old Masters, 43 portraits and landscapes of the British School, to the Philadelphia Museum of Fine Arts, and the collection was displayed at the NCFA from 1923 to 1928, while that museum was being built.
