Summary

The John Howard McFadden Collection of British Old Masters on display in the National Collection of Fine Arts galleries (now the Smithsonian American Art Museum) at the United States National Museum (now the National Museum of Natural History), in the East Room. Photo shows twelve paintings hung on the exhibit walls. A bust sculpture sits on pedestal in the center of the room center foreground. Paintings in next gallery are visible through doorway at far end of long wall. Above the exhibit walls is a partial view of the second floor structure of the USNM building. John Howard McFadden donated the collection of British Old Masters, 43 portraits and landscapes of the British School, to the Philadelphia Museum of Fine Arts, and the collection was displayed at the NCFA from 1923 to 1928, while that museum was being built.
