Edith Halpert, on the left, and Mrs. Charles Sheeler, seated, chat during the opening of the memorial exhibition of the work of Charles Sheeler at the National Collection of Fine Arts, now the Smithsonian American Art Museum, on October 9, 1969. Charles Rettew Sheeler, Jr. (July 16, 1883 - May 7, 1965) was an American artist. He is recognized as one of the founders of American modernism and one of the master photographers of the 20th century.
