The National Zoological Park begins charging a $1.00 parking fee. The Friends of the National Zoo operates the program, and 25% of the profits from the operation is used by FONZ for their educational programs at the Zoo, and 75% were held in escrow by the Smithsonian to partially defray the cost of a new parking facility to be constructed..
