Plan of Smithsonian Grounds between 7th and 12th Streets, showing the proposed National Museum of Engineering and Industry, located along B Street South (Independence Ave). Indicates the proposed destruction of the Arts and Industries Building, the Army Medical Museum, and the South Yard sheds to accommodate the new museum. Also shows the Proposed National Gallery of Art (NGA), to be located to the east of the United States National Museum (now the Natural History Building) and the Proposed George Washington Memorial Building, to be located to the east of the NGA location (east of 7th street). Mall landscaping shows winding paths, as conceived by Andrew Jackson Downing (1851).
