Summary

Engraving of the north front of the Smithsonian Institution Building, Washington, D.C., from an 1852 book. There is shrubbery in the foreground. Lots of people are walking, riding on horses and in carriages. The book was published in 1852, which was three years before the building was finished. Therefore the engraving is not an accurate representation of the finished building. In the engraving the building has minimal detail and the north towers are not as they were built. There is no south tower visible.
