Aerial view of the National Mall area with the Freer Gallery of Art (FGA) in the center and a small portion of the Smithsonian Institution Building (SIB), the "Castle," to its right. Across the Mall, on the north side of Constitution Avenue on the left is the Commerce Department building. Across from the Castle is the National Museum of Natural History (NMNH) with its distinctive dome. Behind NMNH is the Justice Dpartment building on the north side of Constitution Avenue between 10th and 12th Streets. The tower of the Old Post Office building can be seen in the distance. This photo shows the Mall area with trees. The National Museum of History and Technology (NMHT), now the National Museum of American History (NMAH), and the Forrestal Building (Department of Energy) were not yet built. Note the homes and other buildings on the south side of Independence Avenue.
