A museum employee stands under the head of an extinct, American mastodon on display in the Paleontology Exhibit ( c. 1917) in the United States National Museum, now the National Museum of Natural History. American Mastodons occupied woodland areas of North American from coast to coast and from Alaska to Central Mexico.
