Summary

The River Basin Surveys, since 1965 a unit of the Department of Anthropology, is transferred to the National Park Service, although provision is made for the deposit of its records at the Smithsonian Institution. When the Bureau of American Ethnology disbanded in 1965, the Surveys became a unit of the Department of Anthropology. In 1968, the Surveys were placed administratively under the Director of the National Museum of Natural History.
