Summary

  • The 1922 Denzel carousel opens on the National Mall accompanied by a steam calliope. The Smithsonian Museum Service was charged with its operation at this time. In 1977, the carousel celebrated it's tenth anniversary of operation on the Mall.
  • In 1981 the carousel was replaced with a carousel from Baltimore's Gwynn Oak Park.
