Two engineers from the Law Engineering Testing Company conduct a soil boring to obtain samples necessary to plans for the construction of the Quadrangle Building in the South Yard behind the Smithsonian Institution Building, 1979. The samples will tell engineers and architects about soil conditions, the location of the water table, how much a building on the site might settle and other information needed.
