PrintThe First National Bank of Washington fails. At the time, the Smithsonian has $8,224.87 on deposit. Of this amount, the Institution will receive half during the next year, leaving a loss of $4,112.43. The amount on deposit (without any accrued interest) will be fully repaid during 1876.
