West Wing of Smithsonian Building Reconstructed

PrintThe floor of the west wing of the Smithsonian Institution Building or "Castle" is reconstructed using fireproof materials and raised to provide basement laboratories and store rooms for natural history. The building had been badly damaged by a fire in January of 1865.
