The hydrographic gauging station, above Alhajuela, Panama, along the Chagres River where August Busck made his headquarters as he explored the surrounding countryside. From 1910 to 1912, the Smithsonian participated in the Biological Survey of the Panama Canal Zone, to document the natural history of the Canal Zone prior to construction of the Panama Canal. August Busck, of the Bureau of Entomology, United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), was a member of the field party and took this picture.
