The steamer "Cana," of the Darien Gold Mining Co., docked on the Rio Tuyra is enroute from Panama City to Marraganti in eastern Panama. From 1910 to 1912 the Smithsonian participated in the Biological Survey of the Panama Canal Zone, to document the natural history of the Canal Zone prior to construction of the Panama Canal. Mr. Edward Alphonso Goldman from the Bureau of Biological Survey of the United States Department of Agriculture was a member of the field-party and took this picture.
