Summary

The Alice Pike Barney Memorial Collection is presented by Natalie Clifford Barney and Laura Dreyfus-Barney as the nucleus of a loan collection for the embellishment of Federal buildings, museums, libraries, colleges, and other educational institutions in the United States. The Alice Pike Barney Memorial Fund is established to encourage the appreciation and creation of art, and to maintain the loan collection and to organize and circulate traveling art exhibitions in the United States. The collection is comprised of 224 paintings by Barney (1860-1931), "54 pictures by other artists, and many sculptures and objects of art." The fund was established with $15,000, and in January 1953, will be augmented by an additional $5000.
