Summary

The Smithsonian publishes twenty-one "War Background Studies," a new series of illustrated booklets on the peoples, geography, history, natural history, and other features of the areas reached by World War II, especially in the Pacific. Another project undertaken for the Navy is a manual titled "Survival on Land and Sea."
