Secretary Emeritus S. Dillon Ripley stands next to the newly unveiled Walker Hancock sculpture that honors Ripley for his 20-year tenure as Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution and for initiating the 'Quadrangle Project,' which included the S. Dillon Ripley International Center, Arthur M. Sackler Gallery, National Museum of African Art and Enid A. Haupt Garden. The bust was unveiled on May 11, 1990.
