Term "National Museum" Enters Usage

PrintIn the 1867 Annual Report, Secretary Joseph Henry first uses the term "National Museum" (AR 1867, p. 55). The term "National Museum" is also used by the Executive Committee in its report on funds (AR 1867 p. 101). Congress will not recognize the "National Museum" in its appropriation bills until the 1877 appropriation (per AR 1884, p. 53).
