Ornithologist Alexander Wetmore at Riacho Pilaga, Formosa, Argentina, August 14, 1920, while conducting field work for the United States Bureau of Biological Survey, He holds a gun with his right hand and also is holding a dead bird. A knife is in his left hand. Wetmore conducted extensive fieldwork throughout the islands of the Caribbean and various Latin American countries. Wetmore later served as sixth Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution.
