Summary

George Brown Goode (1851-1896), Assistant Secretary in charge of the United States National Museum, Smithsonian Institution from 1887 to 1896. This photograph of Goode is taken from his left and shows him looking to his right. Goode was an ichthyologist, or fish specialist, by training. Goode joined the staff of the Smithsonian to assist with preparations for exhibits at the 1876 Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia and eventually became one of the leading figures in American museum theory and practice.
