Mrs. Ventura Barnes and Dr. Henri Pittier, Swiss-born geographer and botanist, in Ocumare, de la Costa, Venezuela. Pittier was a Swiss-born geographer and botanist, who dedicated many years to the scientific study of Venezuela and began the Venezuelan National Park history. The image was taken by Alexander Wetmore, sixth Smithsonian Secretary and ornithologist, while on scientific expedition in the region.
