Summary

Dr. Henri Pittier, Ocumare de la Costa, Venezuela, October 24, 1937. Pittier was a Swiss-born geographer and botanist, who dedicated many years to the scientific study of the flora and fauna in the area of the current park named for him in Venezuela and was the one who started the Venezuelan National Park history. The image was taken by Alexander Wetmore, sixth Smithsonian Secretary and ornithologist, while on a scientific expedition in the region.
