Summary

United States Congress appropriates $50,000 for the fireproof reconstruction of the eastern portion of the Smithsonian Institution Building. Secretary Spencer F. Baird had plans for the renovation prepared by the architects Cluss & Schulze before the request was made to Congress. On July 7, 1884, an additional $15,000 is appropriated for completion and furniture.
