  • The image was taken by Mary Agnes Chase on a scientific expedition to Brazil. Mary Agnes Chase, botanist with the United States Department of Agriculture and honorary curator of the Grass Herbarium at the United States National Herbarium, Smithsonian Institution, went on an expedition to Brazil in 1929 to collect grass specimens.
