Maria Bandeira, of the Jardim Botanico de Rio de Janeiro, is on a trail below Macieras, Mt. Itatiaia, Brazil. Maria Bandeira accompanied Mary Agnes Chase for this part of her second trip to Brazil. Mary Agnes Chase, botanist with the United States Department of Agriculture and honorary curator of the Grass Herbarium at the United States National Herbarium, Smithsonian Institution, went on an expedition to Brazil in 1929 to collect botanical specimens. Mary Agnes Chase was a botanist specializing in the study of grasses.

Maria Bandeira accompanied Mary Agnes Chase for this part of her second trip to Brazil. Mary Agnes Chase. Later heard from P. Campos Porto that Bandeira entered a convent, the last mention of her. There is no information about how long she remained there.
