Ornithologist and sixth Secretary of the Smithsonian (1944-1952), Alexander Wetmore skinning birds in camp at Laguna Wall, Kilometro 200, Puerto Pinasco, Paraguay on September 25, 1920. Wetmore is seen here sitting facing the side of his car, skinning birds. His coat is on the fender of the car and a blanket is on the front seat. Dead birds are beside Wetmore on the box where he is seated. This is an excellent photograph of Wetmore in the field and the conditions of his "camp." While conducting field work for the United States Bureau of Biological Survey, Wetmore did extensive fieldwork throughout the islands of the Caribbean and various Latin American countries.
