Summary

President Grover Cleveland nominates George Brown Goode as Commissioner of Fish and Fisheries, upon the death of Spencer F. Baird. He accepts the office provisionally, from a sense of duty to the interests of the United States Fish Commission, but will decline the salaried and permanent appointment of Commissioner to resume his duties as Assistant Secretary of the National Museum.
