PrintIn the Annual Report of 1867, Secretary Joseph Henry states that the $4,000 annual appropriation in support of the museum has been temporarily increased to $10,000. In 1868, the appropriation will revert to $4,000, despite a request for more funds due to inflation, the expenses associated with the fire, and the three-fold increase in the size of the National Museum since it was under the charge of the Patent Office.
