Summary

Secretary of War Edwin Stanton directs the Smithsonian Institution to inventory and store the books, maps, etc., seized by United States forces in South Carolina and the books and papers of Bishop John Johns of Alexandria. Note: These libraries will be destroyed in the fire in the Smithsonian Institution Building in January 1865.
