The assembly of the 26-meter (84-foot) fully-steerable radio telescope was mounted on a Harvard pedestal located at the Harvard-Smithsonian George R. Agassiz station, at Harvard, Massachusetts. The radio telescope was acquired by the Smithsonian Institution through the U.S. Army Materiel Command at Huntsville, Alabama. Initial studies conducted with the new telescope included radio investigations of atomic and molecular constituents in the interstellar medium.
