Summary

A bequest of $402.59 is received from Doctor Simeon Habel of New York. The Executive Committee of the Board of Regents authorizes the addition of $97.41 to that amount to increase the total to $500, which is then deposited in the U.S. Treasury to the credit of the Smithsonian endowment. In the 1880 Annual Report, Smithsonian Secretary Spencer F. Baird proposes adding this bequest to the Hamilton fund, and devoting the combined income to ethnological and archaeological research.
