Request permissionsDownload image PrintThe resolution authorizes the President to appoint an agent to assert the claim of the United States to the Smithson bequest in the court of chancery and empowers the agent to receive the money. It authorizes up to five thousand dollars for this purpose. The resolution pledges that all money received from the bequest will be applied toward establishing the Smithsonian Institution.
