- The sum of $22,523,000 is appropriated for necessary expenses of the Smithsonian Institution including: research; preservation, exhibition, and increase of collections from Government; international exchanges; anthropological researches; maintenance of the Astrophysical Observatory; administration of the National Collection of Fine Arts and the National Portrait Gallery; purchase, repair, and cleaning of uniforms for guards and elevator operators; repairs and alterations of buildings; and preparation of manuscripts, drawings, and illustrations for publications. The sum of $2,316,000 is provided for the necessary expenses for carrying out museum programs and related research in the natural sciences and cultural history under the provisions of the Agricultural Trade Development and Assistance Act of 1954 (7 U.S.C. 1704k).
- The sum of $1,589,000 is appropriated for necessary expenses of planning, construction, remodeling and equipping of buildings and facilities at the National Zoological Park. The sum of $2,300,000 is appropriated for restoration and renovation of buildings owned or occupied by the Smithsonian Institution. The sum shall remain available until expended.
- The sum of $2,718,000 is provided for the upkeep and operation of the National Gallery of Art including: protection and care of the works of art therein; payment in advance when authorized by the treasurer of the Gallery for membership in library, museum, and art associations or societies whose publications or services are available to members only, or to members at a price lower than to the general public; purchase, repair, and cleaning of uniforms for guards and elevator operators; purchase or rental of devices and services for protecting buildings and contents thereof; maintenance and repair of buildings and grounds; and restoration and repair of works of art for the National Gallery of Art.
