- The sum of $1,224,090 is appropriated for the Smithsonian; for all salaries and expenses necessary for continuing preservation, exhibition, and increase of collections from Government surveying and exploring expeditions; for the system of international exchanges; for continuing ethnological researches among American Indians and natives of Hawaii and excavation and preservation of archeological remains; for maintenance of the Astrophysical Observatory; for administration of the National Collection of Fine Arts; including personal services in the District of Columbia; traveling expenses; printing and binding, including the report of the American Historical Association; purchase and cleaning of uniforms for guards and elevator conductors; repairs and alterations of buildings; preparation of manuscripts and illustrations for publications; and purchase of books, pamphlets, and periodicals.
- The sum of $634,000 is appropriated for the National Gallery of Art: for protection and care of the works or art and all administrative expenses; traveling expenses; for periodicals, newspapers, law books and books of reference; for membership in library, museum, and art associations or societies; purchase, repair, and cleaning of uniforms for guards and elevator operators; leather and rubber articles and gas masks for the protection of public property and employees; for printing and binding; maintenance, repair and operation of one passenger-carrying automobile; purchase or rental of devices and services for protecting buildings and contents; and maintenance and repair of buildings and grounds.
