- The following sums are appropriated: $49,550 for international exchanges, including necessary employees and purchase of books and periodicals; $57,160 for continuing ethnological researches among the American Indians and the natives of Hawaii, including the excavation and preservation of archaeologic remains; $8,861.66 for the International Catalogue of Scientific Literature; $21,580 for maintenance of the Astrophysical Observatory; $6,000 for an additional Assistant Secretary; $8,500 for additional fire protection, including the laying of the necessary 8-inch water main and the erection of 4 fire hydrants.
- These sums are provided for the National Museum: $21,800 for cases, furniture, etc.; $77,560 for heating, lighting, electrical, telegraphic, and telephonic service; $434,482 for continuing preservation, exhibition, and increase of collections from the surveying and exploring expeditions of the Government; $11,000 for repairs of buildings, shops, and sheds; $2,000 for purchase of books, pamphlets, and periodicals for reference; and $450 for postage stamps and foreign postal yards. The sum of $20,158 is provided for the administration of the National Gallery of Art by the Smithsonian Institution. The sum of $90,000 is appropriated for all printing and binding, including the annual report of the American Historical Association.
