Summary

  • The sum of $150,000 is appropriated to enable the Rock Creek and Potomac Parkway Commission to continue proceedings toward the acquisition of lands required for a connecting parkway between Potomac Park, the Zoological Park, and Rock Creek Park. The Rock Creek Park and the Piney Branch Parkway are hereby made a part of the park system of the District of Columbia. The following sums are appropriated: $35,000 for international exchanges; $42,000 for continuing ethnological researches among the American Indians and the natives of Hawaii, including the excavation and preservation of archaeologic remains; $7,500 for the work of the International Catalogue of Scientific Literature; and $13,000 for maintenance of the Astrophysical Observatory.
  • Also $15,000 for cases, furniture, etc., including employees, for the National Museum; $55,000 for heating, lighting, electrical, telegraphic, and telephonic service; $300,000 for continuing preservation, exhibition, and increase of collections from the surveying and exploring expeditions; $10,000 for repairs of buildings, shops and sheds; $2,000 for purchase of books, pamphlets, and periodicals for reference; and $500 for postage stamps and foreign postal cards. In all, National Museum, $382,500.
  • The sum of $115,000 is provided for the National Zoological Park for: roads, walks, bridges, water supply, sewerage, and drainage; improving the grounds; erecting and repairing buildings and enclosures; care and transportation of animals; necessary employees; driving of horses and vehicles required for official purposes; and necessary books and periodicals. One half of this sum shall be paid from the revenues of the District of Columbia and the other half from the Treasury of the United States. The sum of $5,000 is provided for new sewers in the Smithsonian grounds. The sum of $76,000 is appropriated for printing and binding annual reports of the Board of Regents, the National Museum, the Bureau of American Ethnology, the American Historical Association, for printing labels and blanks and for miscellaneous printing and binding.
