Summary

  • The following sums are appropriated: $32,000 for international exchanges, including salaries of employees and the purchase of books and periodicals; $40,000 for continuing ethnological researches among the American Indians and the natives of Hawaii; $3,000 for excavation on the reservation of Casa Grande Ruin, near Florence, Arizona; $5,000 for the work of the International Catalogue of Scientific Literature; $13,000 for maintenance of the Astrophysical Observatory; $1,250,000 for completing the construction of the National Museum building; $20,000 for cases, furniture, etc. for the National Museum; $18,000 for heating, lighting, electrical, telegraphic, and telephonic service; and $190,000 for continuing the preservation, exhibition, and increase of the collections from the surveying and exploring expeditions of the Government.
  • Also $2,000 for books, pamphlets, and periodicals for reference; $15,000 for repairs to buildings, shops, and sheds; $4,580 for rent of workshops and temporary storage quarters; $500 for postage stamps and foreign postal cards. The sum of $95,000 is provided for the National Zoological Park for continuing the construction of roads, walks, bridges, water supply, sewerage and drainage; for improving the grounds, erecting and repairing buildings; care and transportation of animals; driving of horses and vehicles required for official purposes; and $15,000 for reconstructing and repairing roadways and walks.
  • The sum of $3,000 is appropriated for improvement and maintenance of Smithsonian grounds; and $5,000 for resurfacing asphalt roadways in the grounds. The sum of $73,500 is provided for printing and binding the Annual Reports of the Board of Regents; for additional annual reports, including those of the American Historical Association.
