Summary

  • The following sums are appropriated for the Smithsonian: $36,326 for expenses of the general administrative office, compensation of necessary employees, traveling expenses, purchase of books and periodicals, supplies and equipment; $44, 262 for international exchanges; $58,730 for continuing ethnological researches among American Indians and natives of Hawaii, excavation and preservation of archaeologic remains; and $30,846 for maintenance of the Astrophysical Observatory. For the National Museum: $125,672 for cases, furniture, and appliances, heating, lighting, electrical, telegraphic and telephonic service, repairs and alterations of buildings, shops, and sheds; $594,578 for preservation of collections from Government surveying and exploring expeditions, purchasing and supplying uniforms to guards, postage stamps and foreign postal cards.
  • For the administration of the National Gallery of Art, the sum of $34,275 is provided. The sum of $25,500 is appropriated for all printing and binding. Of this sum $4,200 shall be available for printing the report of the American Historical Association. The total appropriation for the Smithsonian Institution is $950,189.
