- The following sums are appropriated for the Smithsonian Institution; $36,000 for administrative expenses; $44,260 for international exchanges, including purchase of books and periodicals; $58,730 for continuing ethnological researches among American Indians and the natives of Hawaii, the excavation and preservation of archaeologic remains; and $30, 850 for maintenance of the Astrophysical Observatory. For the National Museum: $134,390 for cases, furniture, fixtures, heating, lighting, electrical, telegraphic, and telephonic service, repairs and alterations of buildings, shops, and sheds; $604,580 for preservation of collections and for continuing preservation and increase of collections from the surveying and exploring expeditions of the Government and for purchasing and supplying uniforms to guards, for postage stamps and foreign postal cards, and purchase of books, pamphlets, and periodicals.
- For the administration of the National Gallery of Art, including compensation of necessary employees, purchase of books of reference and periodicals, the sum of $34,275 is appropriated. The sum of $55,500 is provided for all printing and binding for the Smithsonian Institution, of which $8,000 shall be available for printing the report of the American Historical Association. The total appropriation for the Smithsonian Institution is $998,915.
